Debbie Van Kiekebelt
Bio:
Debbie Van Kiekebelt has been a fixture on the Canadian sports and entertainment
scene since she jumped onto the national sports pages as Canada’s Female Athlete
of the Year in 1971. The Woman they dubbed “Miss Olympia” in Munich in 1972 retired from competition to pursue a career in sports journalism. She attended Ryerson University for Journalism and then went onto become Canada’s first woman Sportscaster. Debbie anchored the ten o’clock sports on City TV before graduating to NBC Sports World in New York. She was selected to co-host the 198- Olympics in Moscow, but a boycott by North America led Debbie back home to Toronto.
The prestigious woman’s club, 21 McGill Street, asked Debbie to design their new fitness facilities and run their program, which she did for two years until returning to City TV as their six o’clock anchor. Debbie left to form her own production company, DVK Enterprises, and went on to star in six television series; a one hour magazine program called Contact, a children’s reading show called The Magic Library, Positive Parenting, a fishing show called The Natural Angler, The Training Room with top international athletes and Canadian Living Television. Debbie was also co-host on The Fan 590 Sports Radio and hosted Healthline, a national radio program. She has also appeared on several national television programs as an expert in health, sports, fitness and nutrition. DVK recently acted in the Gemini Award winning comedy Three Chords From the Truth.
Debbie’s commercial endorsements include McDonalds, Bauer Sporting Goods, Egg Farmers of Canada, Adidas and Gillette. She is an inspirational speaker on health and fitness not only for adults but children as well. She is a sought after keynote speaker and her wide range of experience makes her a crowd favourite with men and women. Debbie has maintained an incredible fitness regime, which makes her a living example of the lifestyle she promotes.
