Pavel Janacek – Oil paintings
Born in Czechoslovakia, Pavel immigrated to Canada when he was 19 years old. He pursued a career as an electrician at George Brown College, but his life changed when he met a painter who introduced him to oil painting and recognized his natural talent. Since then, Pavel has spent his life painting, oftentimes on the road – he has painted over four hundred canvases, mostly landscapes, which can be found all over the world.

Pavel’s collection on display at the Carrier Gallery immediately attracted visitor’s attention, beautifully expressing his love for nature.

Was on display May 15 to August 11, 2008

Through the Eyes: Ecuador
A unique photography exhibit came to the Carrier Gallery in April 2007 – Through the Eyes: Ecuador featured a collection of art by students of the creative photography program at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

In May of 2007 a group of fifteen graduating students traveled to Ecuador for fifteen days. This international trip, which was organized and facilitated by Professor Neil Fox, provided a rich experience of photographic possibilities and an opportunity for these graduating students to travel together. Many images have been created as a result of this adventure and the challenges of traveling together meshed friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime.

Was on display April 4 to May 2, 2008

Focal Points by Michael Hyman
The Carrier Gallery hosted a photography exhibit by Canadian artist Michael Hyman entitled Focal Points. The show consisted of beautiful pictures, both in colour and black and white, recreated on Giclee prints.

Michael’s extensive portfolio demonstrates an unusual alliance of a highly developed appreciation of careful composition and a sense of the immediacy of the moment. Michael has been showing his work for many years at juried shows throughout Ontario and more recently in the West.

Was on display March 7 to March 31, 2008
