Karen Manarin is the Executive Director of Professional Regulation at the Law Society of Upper Canada. Reporting to the CEO of the Law Society, Karen oversees and manages a division of 170 staff. From 2009 to 2016, Karen was Deputy Director in the Enforcement Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission where she managed and led high performance teams of approximately 70 staff. From 2006 to 2009, Karen was seconded to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – Integrated Market Enforcement team where she managed a team of RCMP members and civilians in investigating capital-market related criminal activity. She was the first non –police officer to lead an investigative team at the RCMP. From 1998 to 2006, Karen was a Senior Litigation Counsel in the Enforcement Branch at the Ontario Securities and was the Acting Assistant Manager of Litigation for one year. Prior to joining the Commission, she was Counsel at Crown Law Office – Criminal at the Ministry of the Attorney General where she argued criminal appeals in the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada and prosecuted a large and complex fraud. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1991. Karen is the Chair of the Columbus Centre board and has been a board member since 1991.
