On Wednesday, September 17, 2003, the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery presented a slide lecture on "Aristocratic Wine Producing Families of Tuscany". Princess Giorgiana Corsini, who gave a superb presentation that traced the histories of the oldest family vineyards and their influence on the cultural and commercial development of Tuscany from the Middle Ages to the present, also guided guests through a tutored tasting of fine wines.

Villa Charities' creative tour de force volunteer, Catherine Bratty transformed the caramel-coloured marble Lobby and Main Floor Gallery into a perfect Tuscan setting, complete with soft candlelight, rich tapestries, Italian breads, cheeses and meats, and crates overflowing with ripe wine grapes - a lovely, elegant environment for an evening of conviviality and wine-tasting. Mrs. Bratty's tireless efforts also ensured a capacity audience was in their seats when the Princess took them on a personal tour of her Tuscan neighbours' villas and vineyards, while inviting everyone to savour the rich harvest of wines.

The sold-out event was held in partnership with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and launched the weeklong visit of the Princess Corsini to Toronto in support the TSO's Wine Festival fundraising events.

Proceeds from the memorable evening will help support the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Carrier Gallery.
