Extreme Boot Camp

Extreme Boot Camp is not basic training, this boot camp and cross-training program will push your body to the edge. Designed to get the most out of your training, our boot camp workout programs combine multiple workouts to stimulate all muscle groups, helping you perform and compete at your highest level. These programs are designed to build strength and fitness through a variety of intense group intervals over a 75-minute period of time. A wide variety of exercises are instructed in these classes such as lifting weights/objects, push-ups/sit-ups, plyometrics and various types of intense explosive routines. Sessions usually finish with stretching.

Fencing

Do you want to learn a sport, an art and have a great workout at the same time? Fencing provides this and more. At Columbus Centre, we offer a 10-week introductory course where you will learn all the movements, terminology and strategy that goes into a very enjoyable recreational activity or a competitive sport.

Must be 10+ years (exceptions may be made by the instructor).

BEGINNER LEVEL

This is an introduction to fencing, where you’ll learn the terms, steps and arm/hand movements to the sport. Beginner level is designed to fully prepare students for the experienced fencer program. Fencing equipment is provided. Jogging pants, running shoes and t-shirts are required.

INSTRUCTOR LEAD PROGRAM

Beginner and Experienced Instructor Lead fencing programs are offered for 10 consecutive weeks. Most of our junior fencers have graduated to university teams.

Fencing Membership Option: $71.50/Month

This program is for people who already know how to fence and simply want a facility to fence others. Designed to allow skilled fencers from other clubs who already know how to fence. Fencers are required to pay on a monthly basis and provide their own equipment. If club equipment is required, please discuss in advance with the instructor. Any equipment that is damaged must be replaced. Participation in the instructor lead programs are not permitted with this monthly fee.

OLYMPIC-STYLE NON-CONTACT BOX FIT

Aspire to the lean muscularity and athleticism of the elite boxer and discover why boxing/kick-boxing is referred to as “the sweet science.” Learn the skills of a great sport and a proven method of self-defense.

Coach Erico Mancini is an aficionado of Olympic-style boxing and kick-boxing with 30 years of experience in the sport. He worked as a provincial and national team coach and is currently completing both his Provincial and National NCCP Levels 4 & 5 (the highest formal levels of qualification and recognition in coaching). He is also certified in kick-boxing and kung-fu. Participants in Coach Mancini’s boxing and kick-boxing program will learn proper methods of punching, footwork, defense, combinations, setups, feints, and much more.

The biomechanical science underpinning both the conditioning and technical elements of Coach Mancini’s program sharply distinguishes it from the typical Box-exercise class, which only mimics boxing movements, often teaching students a poor technique that lends itself to injury. Whether in his non-contact or competitive program, students will learn to box.

The youth boxing class is a non-competitive class that promotes proper technique, fitness as well as fun. Okinawan Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do is a complete system of self-defence designed for persons of all ages. VINYASA YOGA LEVEL 1

Vinyasa Yoga (a root form of Ashtanga Yoga) is characterized by a focus on dynamic connecting posture that creates a flow between the more static traditional yoga postures. Vinyasa translates as linking and the system also implies the linking of the movement to the breath. Essentially the breath dictates the movement and the length of time held in the postures. Attention is also placed on the journey between the postures, and not just the postures themselves. In Vinyasa Yoga the postures can be arranged into different sequences that can meet the practitioner’s need or mood in a more creative flow.

YOGALATES

This type of class combines the practice of Yoga with Pilates, applying the principles of core stability in Pilates to common yoga postures. Yoga is an eastern Indian tradition that focuses on strength, flexibility and spirituality. Pilates focuses on building strength in the deep muscles of the abdominal region, the body’s core. Both practices involve attaining specific postures, and emphasize correct breathing and meditative mindfulness. The class is designed to tone and strengthen the entire body, as well as to reduce stress while improving mental focus. Among other benefits, the body circulation and energy is increased due to the nature of the exercises. The result is an increase in calories burned, and a decrease of body fat.

This class is designed for the physically fit person who has previous Pilates experience. An understanding of the discipline of Pilates, such as its breathing techniques and principles, is necessary. Each session incorporates targeted exercises that help the participant to gain control, strength, power, and flexibility in specific parts of the body (such as hips, lower back, shoulders, abdominals).
