The 11th Annual Villa Charities Giro cycling fundraiser on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Eagles Nest Golf Course was once again a premier event for the cycling community and honoured the 100th Anniversary of the Giro d’Italia. This year’s event tested the endurance of 198 riders on the 100km GranFondo and 60km MediaFondo routes. This year’s Giro took riders through the scenic regions of Vaughan and Caledon on these two challenging routes, where cyclists enjoyed Italian-themed food and drink rest stops along the way, including Villa Vaughan and Pinecrest Farms.
As a nod to Giro d’Italia tradition, the Maglia Rosa (pink jersey) was presented by Anthony DiCaita, Villa Charities President and CEO to the top fundraiser for the event, Daniel Tiberini. Other notable guests included Silvio Guglietti from Rosehaven Homes and past Chair of Giro, Edward Sorbara from Sorbara Group of Companies, Michael Del Duca, Giro committee member, and Vince Torchetti of Lady York Foods, Lead Sponsor of Giro 2017. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Antonio Giorgio from TLN TV.
After the completion of the ride, the cyclists enjoyed lunch at Lago and the draw for raffle prizes, which were generously donated by Giro sponsors, including a Pioneer Power Meter System, Bianchi city bikes and official 100th Anniversary Giro d’Italia apparel.
Events such as Giro play a significant role in raising the funds required to ensure that Villa Charities can continue to provide its unique brand of high-quality, culturally sensitive programs and services for the community, and a portion of the proceeds from today’s event will also go toward the garden at Villa Colombo Vaughan. This year’s Giro cycling fundraiser raised approximately $100,000 net.
Villa Charities greatly appreciates the tremendous support from all the Giro participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this year’s event. The 12th Annual Giro is scheduled for Sunday, May 27, 2018.
