As a way of enhancing our service, we continually create and foster dedicated partnerships with numerous organizations within our community.
Health Care Services
Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. At Villa Colombo Senior Centre (Vaughan) we continuously strive to meet the care needs of our residents, families and our community. Our professional staff, which includes Nurse Practitioner, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, dietitian, pharmacist, speech therapist and social worker, provide care for individuals with many complex needs.
Residents feel confident that our specialized and compassionate group of professionals will manage their health and social needs.
We achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias have the opportunity to live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.
Villa Colombo Senior Centre (Vaughan) prides itself in providing nutritious, Italian style home-cooked meals. It is not unusual for our residents to enjoy fresh baked bread delivered daily by a local baker, a grilled French cut veal chop and/or an asparagus/mushroom risotto – all in one day. But what makes meal time special at Villa Colombo Senior Centre (Vaughan) is that residents are able to enjoy a glass of wine from Vineland Estates Winery with their meal (with physician approval). Special holiday meals are also provided consistent with the food traditions of the Italian culture.
We have an established food committee consisting of a dedicated group of residents who meet regularly to discuss and review the current menu. Changes to our menus are made as a result of the feedback that we receive from our Resident Food Committee.
Our in house registered dietitian assesses the nutritional needs of our residents. In co-operation with our residents, families and registered team members, our dietitian develops the best-suited nutritional plan for each resident.
Villa Colombo Senior Centre (Vaughan) offers programming seven days a week, including holidays, those programs are designed to meet our residents’ physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs.
The physiotherapy team and the activation department work together to help increase the strength, feelings of independence and self worth of all our residents.
Activity programs include: exercise, bocce, bingo, baking, mental aerobics, crafts, garden club, cards games, movie nights and much more. Special events are designed to include families as well, like our Annual Family Easter Gathering, Grandparents Day Celebration, Santa’s Day and many open houses throughout the year.
Social Work Services
An integral part of our interdisciplinary team is our social worker. Our social worker is available for residents and families in need of counseling, support, information on government funding, finances, power of attorney, education or help with adjusting to their new home.
Social work services truly enhance the quality of life for the people who live, visit and work at Villa Colombo Senior Centre (Vaughan).

Religious and Spiritual Services
Our Chapel “Cappella San Nicola” seats more than 90 people. The resident’s spiritual needs are supported by a variety of different activities. Mass is celebrated weekly on Sunday, as well on special holidays and for memorial services. For those residents who cannot be present in the chapel, we offer them the opportunity to watch the mass live on their TV on a dedicated channel.
We offer a fully equipped, wheelchair accessible Salon where a beautician is able to meet our residents’ hairstyling needs. Appointments can be arranged through the nursing staff.
Volunteers are an integral part of our team. They support residents by assisting with scheduled recreation programs, events and one-to-one interactions. Volunteers are clearly identified while onsite and trained in the roles they assume. Our home is fortunate to receive thousand of hours each and every year of volunteer support from the community.
A pledge of confidentiality and resident safety are key components of our volunteer orientation program.
