NEW PRESCHOOL COURSES
Centro Scuola/Columbus Centre has organized a new series of classes designed for preschool children to enhance their development and give them the best possible start in life. This comprehensive series will guide parents as they participate with their toddlers, helping them develop the appropriate skills needed to play cooperatively with others and build relationships with peers and adults. Through games and other activities, the little ones will learn positive social behaviours such as sharing, compromising and taking turns.

Our affordable classes are led by trained staff that is ready to meet every child’s interest and needs. The program covers a variety of learning experiences with curriculum geared to stimulate emotional, intellectual and cognitive growth, motor skills, language and second language acquisition.

Creativity is best expressed through a variety of artistic media including art, music and movement. Our classes are designed to stimulate the wonderful world of imagination that tots enter during this new stage of life.

GIARDINO D’INFANZIA – LEARNING ITALIAN: MOMMY/DADDY AND ME (AGE 2 - 4)
This course is offered with the aim of enhancing early acquisition of the Italian language, building social skills, and encouraging independence and autonomy. Classes are geared
to the physical and psychological development of each participant.

Day:Monday-Friday
First Term:September 21-November 27 (10 weeks)
Second Term:January 11-March 26 (10 weeks)
March 15-19 classes cancelled for March break
Third Term:April 6-June 11 (10 weeks)
May 24 classes cancelled for Victoria Day
Time:9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Fee:$150 per term or $400 for the whole year


KINDER DANCE: MOMMY/DADDY AND ME (AGES 18 months - 3 yrs)
Children are introduced to movement and rhythm in the comfort of parental companionship. This class includes stretching and body awareness exercises, creative movement, traveling steps, and music awareness. These elements are practiced while holding the hand of the parent and/or instructor. The last portion of the class is devoted to creative activities. This class meets once a week.


ADULT LITERACY PROGRAM

Columbus Centre is an institution with a long-term vision of service to the community, with a special focus on learning and education. In this environment, mature students can develop their full potential and refine their abilities through a series of new courses developed to assist adults to participate more fully in today’s society.

These new courses were developed specifically in response to the needs of the Italian community, based on the concept of lifelong learning. Students will be taught in workshop settings, not exceeding 9 or 10 people per class. The subjects will be chosen according to the students’ preferences as expressed in their first meeting.


ENGLISH LITERACY
The aim of this course is to improve literacy skills that have a direct impact on the person’s day to day life (for example: banking, paying utility bills, filling out forms and other typical everyday situations).

Second Term:January 14-March 25 (10 lessons)
March 18-class cancelled for March break
Third Term:April 8-June 10 (10 lessons)
Time:7:00-8:30pm
Fee:$100.00 per term or $270 per year


COMPUTER LITERACY
This course is designed to introduce adults to the different elements of computer technology. Students are guided through various computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Moviemaker. More advanced computer skills will be introduced later on in the course, and will include presentation and graphic design.

Second Term:January 12-March 23 (10 lessons)
March 16-class cancelled for March break
Third Term:April 6-June 8 (10 lessons)
Time:2:00-4:00pm
Fee:$230 per term


ITALIAN THE FUN WAY

MORNING COFFEE AND ITALIAN SONGS
There is no better way to learn a language than sip a cup of coffee and listen to modern Italian songs. Join us and through the texts of the songs you will acquire a basic knowledge of the language.

AFTERNOON TEA AND ITALIAN MOVIES
Cannot choose between going to the movies and learning Italian? It’s easy!!!!!!!!
Take this class and you will be able to do both. With the assistance of an instructor you will also be able to learn the cultural content of the film.

ITALIAN FOR TRAVELERS
Make your visit and stay in Italy an even more enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
Learn the basic expressions you need to travel, to enjoy the food, shopping tips, and cultural information

ITALIAN FOR COOKS AND ITALIAN FOOD LOVERS
There is no better way to learn about the culture of Italy than learning about its food. This course you will allow you to speak about Italian foods like a pro.

You will learn about the culinary differences of the Regions of Italy, as well as the related vocabulary. A “food testing” night will be part of the course.

PERFECTING ITALIAN
This course is designed for the students who have completed the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels or by permission of the instructor upon an evaluation of the student. By the end of this course the participants will be able to take part in a conversation with a native speaker, read Italian magazines, newspapers and write different types of texts.
