New ‘Star Kids’ Program Prepares Students for a Music Career

Star Kids is a new program offered by the School of Music, specifically designed for students to learn what it takes to be successful in the music industry. The program is run by Lauren Libfeld, a music industry professional and instructor for our Music Program. The students will learn how to work in a group setting as well as develop their own skills in voice performance, audition prep, media, public speaking, song writing, movement, head shots, bio writing, industry knowledge, vocal harmonies, microphone technique, and more.

When: Thursday, March 23, 6:30pm-8:00pm
Where: Columbus Centre, 3rd Floor Yoga Room
Cost: $30.00 per student
Minimum enrollment of 6 students required for the Workshop.

The Star Kids Intro Workshop has been developed to give students a preview of the program and to help the students prepare for their music auditions. Star Kids will select a limited number of participants for a potential full-time elite program. We are looking for students between the ages of 7 and 14 who are incredible singers, positive role models, and above all else, have a passion for singing. The introductory workshop is a great opportunity to see if Star Kids is a fit for you.

The DanzArts Toronto Company Kicks Off Competitive Season in a Big Way

Piera Raffoul

DanzArts Toronto Company dancers Victoriana Belperio, Alessandra Franco, Piera Raffoul and Alyssa Scocco attended ‘Fever Solo Heat’ on February 26 to kick off the competition season. Fever Solo Heat is an event that allows dancers to perform their solos for a panel of experts, receive feedback and participate in a day of workshops. Piera Raffoul, 14-years-old, was awarded a scholarship to attend the Canadian Dance Expo this summer for her performance.

There are still spots available for the DanzArts Toronto Kinderdance program, which is underway. This 12-week program is perfect for kids ages 3 to 5 who love to move and dance. The class is an excellent introduction to jazz and ballet fundamentals and will help students develop the basics of rhythm, balance, and coordination in a positive and encouraging environment.

You can still purchase your tickets for the DanzArts Toronto Company Showcase on Friday, March 10 at Cardinal Carter High School.  The Company Showcase is an opportunity for the dancers to perform on stage in front of a live audience before their first competition.

Please note: DanzArts Toronto has no classes from March 13 to 18 for March Break. Classes will resume March 20.

For more information on the DanzArts Toronto Company, the Kinderdance Program or any DanzArts Toronto program, please contact Kaitlin at 416-789-7011 Ext. 250, at dance@danzartstoronto.com or visit our website here.

Spring is in the Air with New Exhibit at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery

Debra Wronzberg

Five artists have combined to create the colourful, flower-filled exhibit entitled “Step Into Colour” that will be on display at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery from March 9 to April 3. “Step Into Colour” is an exhibit bursting with vibrant colours and the freshness of the spring season, executed in mixed media. The bright pallettes and the movements of the brush on the canvases from artists Sandra Crozier, Heather Cullity, Anna Rosa, Debra Wronzberg and Kareen Hague create a spectacle of colour that will lift your spirits and put you in the mood for spring.

The exhibit will be showcased in Atrium A and B. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on Thursday, March 9, from 6:30 to 9:30pm.

This new exhibit will join Brian Boyd’s show “Variant Views” at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery. Boyd’s collection of oil and digital paintings will be displayed in the Lower Gallery until April 2.

For more information on the Joseph D. Art Carrier Gallery, click here or call
