The spirit of Carnivale was alive at the Venetian Ball!
Toronto, On - On Thursday, October 5, 2006, the Villa Charities Foundation's 13th annual gala event, The Venetian Ball raised over $500,000! Every year this event embodies the spirit of the Venetian Carnevale, and over the years, has raised millions of dollars for Villa Charities' family of organizations. This year's Ball featured exquisite food and drink, famous faces, priceless auction items, as well as live entertainment from crooner Matt Dusk and Comedian Frank Spadone, who also acted as Master of Ceremonies!
The custom of Venetian Carnevale is a centuries-old ritual celebrated to announce the arrival of spring and is marked by the donning of elaborate costumes and masks. A time of eating, drinking and celebrating life, the spectacle of Carnevale was also a time for people to hide or alter their appearance behind elaborate masks. Unhindered by identity, revelers of different social classes mingled without fear of repercussion.
Acting as co-chairs for the 13th annual Venetian Ball were Peter and his wife Anna Eliopoulos, also founders of byPeterandpauls.com. "My wife and I are proud to be a part of this great tradition", said Peter Eliopoulos, "the Venetian Ball is one of the city's premiere fundraising events and we are honoured to be contributing to such a worthwhile charity". Peter and Anna were hard at work ensuring the event continues in the true spirit of the Venetian Carnival and while the goal was to raise much needed support for Villa Charities, they also promised to raise the bar for future Venetian Ball celebrations.
For more than 30 years, Villa Charities has been delivering culturally sensitive programmes to seniors, to individuals with developmental disabilities, and to the general community via sports and cultural arts programmes offered by their family of organizations, which include: Villa Colombo Services for Seniors, Columbus Centre, VITA Community Living Services and Villa Colombo Vaughan.
