COVID-19 Updates

January 21, 2022

Dear VCV Residents, Families and Staff,

At Villa Colombo Vaughan, we continue to follow strict Infection Prevention and Control measures as we have done since the beginning of this pandemic.

As per Government of Ontario on January 21, 2022 there were 358 long-term care homes in outbreak, with active COVID cases among 2,569 residents and 4,088 staff. We ask you to remain vigilant with IPAC practices while in the community and in our home.

As home remains in COVID-19 outbreak, all residents remain on isolation under contact/droplet precautions. We continue to work closely with York Region Public Health and testing residents and staff as per YRPH directions. We will continue to provide updates as they become available to us.

As of January 21, 2022 4:00 PM

If you are an essential caregiver, please kindly take into consideration rapid spread of OMICRON cases when making a decision to visit our home.

During an outbreak only one essential caregiver can visit at a time.

The following IPAC measures are in place:
• Increased cleaning of high-touch surfaces such as handrails and furniture in all areas
• Close monitoring of all residents for symptoms of COVID-19, including taking temperatures and completing active screening twice a day
• Active screening of all staff and visitors for symptoms of COVID-19, including taking temperatures
• Staff being cohorted to a specific resident area
• Physical distancing is maintained in all areas of the home
• Enhanced hand hygiene
• Enhanced surveillance testing of staff and visitors

Please remain vigilant and practice the following measures to minimize the spread of the virus:
• Stay 6 feet apart from others
• Avoid crowds, keep trips short
• Wear a mask
• Stay home and self-isolate if you are sick
• Clean surfaces and your hands often
• Avoid touching your face
• Pay attention to and sanitize surfaces while shopping or using a gas station
• Open windows to increase airflow and ventilation
• DO NOT come to the Home if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19
• Adhere to all home’s Policies, Government of Ontario and Public Health Directives
• Get vaccinated against COVID-19, schedule your booster shot

If you haven’t done so already, book your COVID-19 vaccination or booster shot.

We are planning to hold another vaccination clinic on site next week and inviting essential caregivers to join. Please contact our IPAC Lead Jillian Garcia vcvipaclead@universalcareinc.ca

Our ongoing commitment to you is that VCV and UniversalCare will be meeting and working with York
