Premium Aquatics Programs

We are happy to announce that with the provincial government’s recent announcement to reopen pool facilities, the Columbus Centre Athletic Club will reopen the Pool beginning Friday, July 10, with strict guidelines and a limited class schedule.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, Saturday & Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

Members will be emailed a login and password to access online booking at columbuscentre.antaris.ca. For individuals who currently do not have a valid email address registered with the Columbus Centre Athletic Club, you will be able to book your time slot by calling the Aquatics Department at (416) 789-7011 ext. 215 or email fitness@villacharities.com to request a time slot.

To ensure your safety, certain restrictions will apply.

Strict adherence of the following is required by all participating members:

  • All Pool visits will need to be booked in advance via our online booking portal
    • Only one booking per day
    • An email with booking and membership activation instructions will be sent to all members
    • If your email address is not on file, or you do not receive instructions, please email your request to fitness@villacharities.com
  • Each visit will be 45 minutes in length
  • Entry to the Pool will be via the West side Pool door and exit via the East side Pool door
    • Please respect the physical distance markers painted on the ground while waiting to enter
    • Masks must be worn while in line
  • Please be prepared to scan your membership card at the Pool office upon entry
  • Access to the remainder of the Athletic Club beyond the Pool is prohibited
  • Washrooms ARE available for patron use
  • Lockers, change rooms and showers will NOT be available
  • Personal flotation equipment may be used
  • Small cubby storage spaces will be available for towels, robes and small personal items
  • DO NOT bring large bags or other sizeable items as the Pool deck MUST remain clear at all times
  • Swimmers will need to come prepared to swim and leave the Pool area without changing out of wet clothes as quickly as possible

The following programs are available to members and non-members for an extra cost. All participants are required to register before the start of each session.

Aquatics Programs

The Lifesaving Society Program – Parent & Tot

Spend quality time with your child while you both have fun and learn and socialize.

Through structured in-water interaction between parent and child, we stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. We provide Lifesaving Society Water Smart® tips on keeping your child safe in any aquatic setting. Certified instructors provide guidance and answers to your questions.

Because activities and progressions are based on child development, you register in the level appropriate for your child’s age: 4–12 months, 12–24 months, or 2–3 years.

Designed for the 4 to 12-month-old to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.

Designed for the 12 to 24-month-old to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.

Designed for the 2 to 3-year-old to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.

The Lifesaving Society Program – Preschool

Give your child a head start on learning to swim. The Lifesaving Society Preschool program helps your child to develop an appreciation and healthy respect for the water before these kids get in too deep.

In our basic aquatic progressions we work to ensure 3 to 5-year olds become comfortable in the water and have fun acquiring and developing a foundation of water skills. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all Preschool levels.

These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We’ll help them jump into chest deep water. They will try floats and glide on their front and back, and learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater.

These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves, and get in and get out wearing a lifejacket. They’ll submerge and exhale underwater. While underwater and while wearing a life jacket, they’ll glide on their front and back.

These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They’ll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They’ll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They’ll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater. They’ll master a short (5m) swim on their front wearing a lifejacket and gliding and kicking on their side.

These youngsters get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a lifejacket and holding their breath under water for 10 seconds. They’ll work on front and back crawl swims for 5m, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.


  • Preschoolers move from Preschool to Swimmer based on age – traditionally around 5-6 years old.
  • Preschoolers who have completed Preschool E would move to Swimmer 2; all other move to Swimmer 1.

The Lifesaving Society Program – Swimmer Program

The Lifesaving Society’s 6-level Swimmer program makes sure your children learn how to swim before they get in too deep.

Swimmer progressions accommodate children 6 years and older including absolute beginners as well as swimmers who want to build on the basics.

We stress lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all Swimmer levels.

These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They’ll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They’ll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back.

These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They’ll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training 4 x 9-12m.

These junior swimmers will dive, do in-water front somersaults, and handstands. They’ll work on 10-15m of front crawl, back crawl and whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4 x 25m. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard.

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. They’ll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4 x 25m front or back crawl interval training.

These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They’ll refine their front and back crawl over 50m swims of each, and breaststroke over 15-25m. Then they’ll pick up the pace in 25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50m front or back crawl; and 4 x 10-15m breaststroke.

These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25m. They’ll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and they’ll complain about the 300m workout.

The Lifesaving Society Program – Swim Patrol

The Lifesaving Society’s 3-level Canadian Swim Patrol program provides enriched training for those who want to develop swim strokes and skills while having fun in the challenging world of lifesaving. Swim Patrol develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water Smart® behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment.

SWIMMER 7 (Rookie Patrol)
Swimmers continue stroke development with 50m swims of front
crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving sport skills include a 25m obstacle swim and 15m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS, and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350m workouts and 100m timed swims.

SWIMMER 8 (Ranger Patrol)
Swimmers develop better strokes over 75m swims of each stroke. They tackle lifesaving sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.

SWIMMER 9 (Star Patrol)
Swimmers are challenged with 600m workouts, 300m timed swims and a 25m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defence methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water.

The Lifesaving Society Program for Adults

Whether you’re just starting out or just want help with your strokes, our Adult program is for the young at heart – no matter what your age. Set your own goals. Work with certified instructors to learn to swim, or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness.

You won’t be going to the Olympics, but you’ll develop water confidence and smooth recognizable strokes good enough for lane swimming and fit enough for the beach. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all Adult levels.

Kick it up a notch working on two interval training workouts of 4 x 25m kicking and front or back crawl. You’ll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 10–15m. You’ll be supporting yourself at the surface for 1–2 minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water.

No sweat (or at least none anyone can see). You’ll learn eggbeater, stride entries and compact jumps. You’ll be doing a 300m workout and sprinting 25–50m. You’ll master your front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke.

You’ll work towards a 10–15m swim on your front and back. You’ll do jump entries from the side and recover an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4 x 9–12m interval training.

The Lifesaving Society Program – Bronze Courses

BRONZE STAR – Prerequisite Age 12+

  • Preparation for success in Bronze Medallion.
  • Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners.
  • Candidates learn CPR & first aid and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard.
  • Includes a timed 400m swim.

This class will coincide with Junior Swim Club and Swimmer 9 (Star Patrol).


  • Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education – judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness.
  • Rescuers learn tows and carries, defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.
  • Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500m timed swim.

BRONZE CROSS AND EMERGENCY FIRST AID – Prerequisite Bronze Medallion

  • Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.
  • Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.
  • Includes a timed 600m swim.

Junior Swim Club (JSC)

This program is geared to youths 10–15 years of age who wish to continue working on their swimming or life-saving skills. Motivated by a qualified instructor the participant will improve their stroke mechanics, strength and endurance, and life-saving techniques in a rigorous one-hour workout.

Note: The JSC is designed to fill the gap between The Lifesaving Society Program – Swimmer 9 and Bronze Medallion/Cross.

Prerequisite: Participants are expected to have completed The Lifesaving Society Program – Swimmer 9 or have equivalent swimming ability.

Personal Training in the Water

Come and train in the water in a safe and effective way to maximize your best performance while getting a total body workout.

You can take advantage of the qualities of water regardless of your swimming abilities. Workouts are geared to your specific individual goals ie. to a sport, to focus on a body part in post rehabilitation recovery or just to maintain general well-being. With the added protection of the water and a highly qualified instructor you will quickly begin to feel the benefits.


Single Session: $70.00
3 Hour Package: $195.00
5 Hour Package: $300.00
10 Hour Package: $550.00

A session must be used at least once every 1 & 1/2 weeks.

Please note that there is a 24-hour cancellation policy in effect for all personal training sessions. If any session is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice to the club the client will be charged for the session.

Private Lessons

Private and semi-private lessons for both adults and children are available. Dates and times can be arranged by completing a Private Lesson Request form from the Membership or Pool Office. We do not guarantee the arrangement due to limited availability of instructors. All classes are 30 minutes only.


Members: $237.00/person for a set of 5 lessons
Non-Members: $257.00/person for a set of 5 lessons


Members: $302.00 for a set of 5 lessons (2 participants)
Non-Members: $337.00 for a set of 5 lessons (2 participants)

All private and semi-private swimming lessons must be completed within six months of purchase. There will not be any credits or refunds after that period.


A great total body workout for all ages and for all fitness levels in the pool. You have a choice of exercising in the deep end or shallow end with music. Classes focus on cardio, strengthening, flexibility and increasing endurance with minimal or zero impact on the joints in a safe, effective and enjoyable environment.

Please note: General Aquafit Classes are included with your Athletic Membership. Specialty Aquafit classes are available with an additional fee.

Aquafitness Specialty Classes (Premium Program)

The benefits of deep water training are similar to land-based exercises if the intensity is the same. It provides combined muscular and cardiovascular conditioning along with increased range of motion with no impact. Participants must be comfortable in deep water with a belt or a noodle. This is an excellent cross-training class because there is no centre of gravity in deep water and the body’s stabilizer muscles become more intensely involved.

Suffering from Arthritis Pain?

Columbus Centre Athletic Club’s arthritis aquafitness program is fun, safe, easy to follow, and easy on the body, especially on the joints. Suitable for all ages, this therapeutic program takes place in Columbus Centre’s 84°F pool and is beneficial for both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis conditions.
