Long Term Care Services

Please note that all Adult Day Programs have been suspended until further notice.

The composition of the Italian community we have served for decades is changing and our population of seniors and their diverse needs are growing.

There is a growing need in the community to educate seniors about their options as they continue to age. One of our key roles is to communicate clear, useful and timely information throughout the journey of aging.

Families making plans for the care of their loved ones, and the individuals themselves, need to know about the care and services we provide and the options available to them within the continuum of care. Villa Colombo recognizes this need and is well-equipped to support seniors to achieve their goal of living at home independently for as long as possible. Villa Colombo’s Community Services offer a range of programmes that can keep the elderly population out of institutions for longer than expected. We will seek every opportunity to augment our array of services to help elderly Italian-Canadians maintain an independent lifestyle and stay at home as long as possible.

Health Care Services

Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. At Villa Colombo Toronto, we continuously strive to meet the care needs of our residents, families and our community. Our professional staff, which includes a Nurse Practitioner, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, dietitian, pharmacist, speech therapist and social worker, provide care for individuals with many complex needs.

Residents feel confident that our specialized and compassionate group of professionals will manage their health and social needs.

Nursing Care

We achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs.

Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias have the opportunity to live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Dietary Services

Villa Colombo Toronto prides itself in providing nutritious, Italian-style home-cooked meals. It is not unusual for our residents to enjoy fresh baked bread delivered daily by a local baker, a grilled French cut veal chop and/or an asparagus/mushroom risotto – all in one day. But what makes meal time special at Villa Colombo is that residents can enjoy a glass of wine from Vineland Estates Winery with their meal (with physician approval). Special holiday meals are also provided consistent with the food traditions of the Italian culture.

We have an established food committee consisting of a dedicated group of residents who meet regularly to discuss and review the current menu.  Changes to our menus are made because of the feedback that we receive from our Resident Food Committee.
Our in-house registered dietitian assesses the nutritional needs of our residents. In co-operation with our residents, families and registered team members, our dietitian develops the best-suited nutritional plan for each resident.

Resident Programs

Villa Colombo Toronto offers programming seven days a week, including holidays, those programs are designed to meet our residents’ physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs.
The physiotherapy team and the activation department work together to help increase the strength, feelings of independence and self-worth of all our residents.
Activity programs include: exercise, bocce, bingo, baking, mental aerobics, crafts, garden club, cards games, movie nights and much more. Special events are designed to include families as well, like our Annual Family Easter Gathering, Grandparents Day Celebration, Santa’s Day, and many open houses throughout the year.

Social Work Services

An integral part of our interdisciplinary team is our social worker. Our social worker is available for residents and families in need of counseling, support, information on government funding, finances, power of attorney, education or help with adjusting to their new home.
