Summer Camp

For over 20 years, Villa Charities’ Columbus Centre summer camp has been offering something for every camper. With 14 different camps to choose from, including dance, art, sports, kitchen and magic camps, there is little, if anything, that we cannot provide for your child. Our camps are engaging, active, and focused on giving your child a summer retreat where they can interact with others in a fun and exciting environment. Our full-day or half-day options make our camps very customizable and easily adaptable to your scheduling needs. We offer extended care for before and after camp hours, excursions as well as a hot lunch menu.

With over 22 camp counsellors, six instructors for indoor camps, and over 40 volunteers from community members, Columbus Centre summer camp is adequately staffed to ensure your child is safe, properly looked after, and given adequate one-on- one time to enhance whatever skills they have come to explore.

TRIPLE THREAT CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

Explore your imagination and be yourself! Join us this summer for the thrill of creating and performing through dance, drama and vocal talents.

This camp focuses on engaging campers through the active process of creating theatrics through dance, voice and drama. Campers will give voice and physical form to their imaginations, develop fundamental theatre skills and together create a performance based on the ideas of the instructor. Previous performances have included Grease and Hairspray.

There will be a performance on the last day of camp! Parents are welcome to attend the last 20 minutes of their final day of camp.

Price: Half Day Fee $320.00 (per 2 week session)

DANCE CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

Campers will enjoy a daily schedule of hip-hop, modern, jazz, and musical theatre dance styles in a positive atmosphere, where they can explore their maximum potential and have fun! The instructor will focus on technique and performance. We have a maximum number of dancers per class allowing the instructor to give individual attention to build campers’ self-image, body awareness and confidence.

There will be a performance on the last day of camp! Parents are welcome to attend the last 15 minutes of their final day of camp.

VISUAL ARTS & CRAFT CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

In this program, campers will learn many techniques of crafting, painting, drawing and paper-maché. Budding artists will have fun creating their own “masterpieces” with a variety of different mediums and activities. As a grand nale, campers will curate their works for an exhibit display! Parents are welcome to attend the last 15 minutes of their final day of camp.

DRAWING & STOP-MOTION ANIMATION CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

This camp is a great choice for artistic campers who want a more specialized training in the arts, specifically drawing. Campers will learn various styles of cartoon drawing including Japanese anime and Chibi, caricatures, comic book cartoons, Disney/Pixar and DreamWorks-inspired cartoons and more. Activities include creating Claymation, stop-motion, drawing favourite cartoon characters and inventing cartoon characters.

JEWELRY MAKING CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

No experience required! Campers learn a wide range of jewelry techniques through creating different and exciting ready-to-wear pieces. Bring your creativity to life with this jewelry-making camp. You’ll learn the latest trends, tricks and methods for using the right tools, materials and beads that will bring you inspiration! At the end of each camp, you will leave with gorgeous pieces of jewelry that are uniquely inspired by your own creativity.

KITCHEN CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

Campers will learn the art of culinary preparation from a classically trained chef. Campers will prepare and cook appetizers, pizzas, pastas, risotto, and delicious desserts in a positive, safe and fun environment. The menu will include both Italian and international cuisines. All campers will learn authentic culinary recipes and techniques.

CHALLENGER CAMP (AGES 10 – 14)

Together, campers will learn to share their ideas, listen to the ideas of others and problem solve with their teammates. The focus of this camp is to work together to solve challenges with your teammates while using the ideas of respect, cooperation and team spirit. Campers will be presented with brain-teasing challenges that require focus and camaraderie. Campers will be extremely active both physically and mentally throughout and will even bring some of their challenges home to test their family members…so be prepared to be tested by your child!

MAGIC CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

Have you ever wondered how a magician was able to wow a crowd again and again? This is your chance to learn various magic techniques with the help of a professional magician! Campers will learn the secrets of the magic trade including: sleight of hand, misdirection, stage presence, parlour magic and close-up magic. Campers will leave camp being able to wow their family with their very own magic show!

BE A BUILDER CAMP (AGES 4 – 12)

Using the newest Lego blocks and sets, kids will engage in designing unique creations. Staff work to develop themes that create an extraordinary atmosphere to build unique productions, play games and have loads of fun! Activities are designed to develop young children’s lively imaginations and build their self-confidence enhancing science, technology, engineering, mathematics (S.T.E.M education) and architecture.

TENNIS CAMP (AGES 5 – 16)

A Certified Tennis Professional will guide your kids through the Tennis Canada-approved “Progressive Tennis” approach, which emphasizes learning with the greatest amount of success. The theory behind it is that the faster your child sees success, the more they will enjoy the sport. We emphasize the importance of teamwork, competition, and most of all, FUN!

Camp includes:

  • Training drills using “Progressive Tennis” techniques.
  • Fun tennis games and sports to improve agility and coordination.
  • Friday Tournament and Games Day.

What to bring?

• Hat, water bottle, sun screen, tennis racquet, tennis shoes, a snack.

Mark is a TPA/Tennis Canada certified coach as well as an Open and Majors level competitive player. With 15 years of experience working with players of all ages and levels, Mark and his team bring a unique and exciting program to the Columbus Centre.

KARATE CAMP (AGES 6 – 12)

Action and fun! Learn karate in this summer camp through daily practice and karate-related fun activities. Both new and experienced karate students are welcome. Qualifying students will be eligible for belt promotion and certification.

EXTREME SOCCER CAMP (AGES 4 – 12) ENHANCED PROGRAM!

Learn. Develop. Compete! Our new certified and trained soccer instructor will guide soccer enthusiasts where they will learn various soccer fundamentals. This camp is designed to give campers of all skill levels the basic foundations, techniques, and understanding of the sport. Campers will participate in fun soccer drills, exercises and soccer matches. Campers will also be included in a variety of the Ultimate Experience Camp’s themed activities and events.

EXTREME SPORTS CAMP (AGES 9 – 12)

The Extreme Sports Camp offers recreational sports for all skill levels. Campers will participate in dodgeball, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, flag football, floor hockey, recreational swimming, and much more. Campers will also be included in a variety of Ultimate Experience Camp’s themed-activities.

The Ultimate Experience Camp is the “All-in-One” camp of the summer! The Ultimate Experience Camp will provide campers with fun-filled engaging activities in a safe and nurturing environment, where they can explore and grow. Campers will participate in activities like: organized games, arts and crafts, sports, recreational swimming, cooking, Italian instruction, mad science experiments. We even have exciting special events in store like excursions and special guests/on-site presentations (additional fees may apply).

Price: Full Day Fee $340.00 (per 1 week session)
Half Day Fee $192.00 (per 1 week session)
Full Day Fee $505.00 (per 2 week session)
Half Day Fee $242.00 (per 2 week session)

Price

Camp course fees do not include HST, however HST may apply to additional services and products.

Payment

We accept credit cards, cheques, debit and cash (exact amount). Payment is due in full upon registration. If camper is registered for both a July and an August session, there is a second installment Payment Plan available (second installment due on Friday, July 27). Inquire within for full details. An administration fee of $30.00 NSF (non-sufficient funds) will apply to all bounced cheques.

T-shirts

Our campers wear t-shirts to help identify them; this is also for their safety. All camp course fees include one free shirt. (Note: Two free shirts per camper if registered in 3 or more sessions. Additional shirts can be purchased by visiting the Cultural Arts of ce for $10.00 +HST each).

Terms

All camp programs are subject to a minimum enrolment. Camp registrations are non-transferable. Columbus Centre reserves the right to terminate a camper’s enrolment if, it is the Centre’s opinion, that it is in the best interest of the child or camp. Columbus Centre reserves the right to cancel or combine camps due to limited enrolment. Columbus Centre reserves the right to change instruction.

Refund Policy

No refunds after registration and payment is received. In addition, no refunds will be given for any days not attended (due to schedule change, vacation, illness, etc.)

Leader-In-Training (LIT) (Ages 13–15)

The LIT program provides senior campers with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, build teamwork skills and to gain valuable knowledge and experiences, in a fun and positive environment. LITs will take on responsibilities associated with instructing and counselling while still being supervised. A letter acknowledging the completed hours can be issued upon request. LITs must be registered for a minimum of one full week, full day.

LIT Price: $135.00 (1 week Full Day)

Volunteers (16 Years And Older)

We welcome volunteers to assist the camp counsellors/instructors with the daily activities. A letter acknowledging the completed hours can be issued upon request. Spaces are limited. Must be 18 years or older and obtain a Police check from Toronto Police Services (at your own cost). Volunteers are required to pay a one-time fee only. They must be signed up for a full week, full day.

Volunteer Price: $25.00 (Material package)

Please note: Prices for LIT and Volunteers, include one free volunteer t-shirt and completion of a reference letter/Record of Volunteer Hours (ROVH). Letters and ROVH are done by request only.

If Volunteer / LIT would like to participate in our excursions and/or specialty Friday lunch, extra fees will apply.

Mandatory Orientation Training Session will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018.

Special Needs Campers

Part of our philosophy at the Columbus Centre is to integrate children of diverse developmental backgrounds into our camp programs. We provide special needs counsellors (one-on-one or small groups) as determined by the Camp Coordinator’s assessment and/or supplemented by a doctor’s note provided by the camper’s parent or guardian.

Alternatively, we do welcome those campers who bring their own support worker. We would be happy to meet with families to discuss their child’s needs to ensure a positive camp experience. Please contact the Cultural Arts office should you require any additional information.
