SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The Columbus Centre School of Music is committed to the development and diffusion of music both within the Italian Canadian community and the community at large. Our music school gives students the opportunity to explore their musical passion. Our instructors have a breadth of musical periods, genres and varied teaching techniques. Our instructors cater to each individual interest, whether the aim is for leisurely fun or for preparation for the Royal Conservatory of Music and school-entry exams.

We offer a wide variety of music lessons that are open to anyone of any skill level. Our seasonal one-on-one private lessons are taught by our professional instructors. For over 30 years, our music program has developed into one of the most prominent in the community, and the progress of our students is widely admired by those who attend our two annual recitals.

In addition to in-person classes, the Columbus Centre School of Music is also offering online music classes! Our music instructors will be teaching private lessons virtually via apps such as ZOOM, Google Meet or Facetime. Open to new and existing students. Meet Your Instructors

A professional musician, educator and audio engineer, Thomas has been playing and teaching music professionally for over 10 years. Developing a passion for music from a young age, his musical experience has led him to many instruments and genres, beginning in classical and then to folk, rock, jazz, pop and world.

Thomas was driven to gain a complete understanding of the musical process from music theory to recording and production and is a graduate of Metalworks Institute of Sound and Technology, in Performance and Engineering.

Thomas is a multi-instrumentalist who sees genres and instruments as beautiful worlds to discover and explore. He teaches guitar, piano, accordion, drums, vocals, brass and woodwinds.

Roberto DiPlacido is a musician, educator, and independent researcher, and one of Toronto’s top experts on Italian folk music.

Having spent several years living between Canada and Italy, he now teaches and performs the many ancient, often little-known musical traditions of Southern Italy, playing rare authentic instruments and singing in the ancient dialects of each region.

Roberto teaches guitar, Italian frame drums, and introductions to the study of Italian folk music and culture.

With over 25 years’ experience teaching music at the Columbus Centre, Mila Germanovsky believes that musical knowledge plays an essential role in our lives. Working with each student’s unique personality and academic level Mila teaches music theory, history of music and the importance of music foundation.

With considerable experience as a three-finger-style (Earl Scruggs’ style) banjo player, Giulio Leghissa is making a name for himself on the Toronto bluegrass and old-time music scene. With his band The Don Valley Drifters, Giulio has performed at venues in Toronto and in Ontario, including bluegrass and folk music festivals, and currently working on their first album. He also plays acoustic, flatpicking-style guitar and has an extensive knowledge of the history of old-time and bluegrass music tradition originating in the Appalachians in the early twentieth century. A history researcher and teacher at University of Toronto, Giulio blends theoretical, historical, and practical approaches to the study of banjo and guitar.

Giulio’s lessons are tailored to the individual student’s goal—whether they want to learn to play banjo/flatpick guitar for their own enjoyment or to work towards a future career in the music industry. With the understanding that playing music is a combined exercise of mind and body, Giulio’s teaching method integrates the study of the instrument, the playing techniques, and muscular awareness.

Stacie is a dedicated violin teacher with a passion for guiding students of all ages and skill levels in their musical development. With over 20 years of experience as a competitor, guest soloist, and orchestral performer, she brings a wealth of knowledge and artistry to her teaching. Stacie creates a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can build strong technique, musicality, and confidence.

Each lesson is thoughtfully tailored to the individual student’s goals—whether they are just beginning their journey or working to refine advanced skills. Stacie’s approach emphasizes personal growth, enjoyment, and a deep connection to music.
