Summer Camp Counsellor – Columbus Centre

Job Summary

The Columbus Centre is seeking Summer Camp Counsellors. This position will report to the Summer Camp Coordinator.

 

Shift:

Columbus Centre Summer Camp runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The total hours of work will be dependent upon the enrollment numbers; as such, Counsellors will either work a scheduled shift of a half day or full day per session.

 

Key job accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create lesson plans for a variety of camps: Ultimate Experience (General), Soccer, and Ultimate Sports camps, under the direction of the Summer Camp Coordinator.

  • Successfully lead a variety of camps: Ultimate Experience (General), Soccer, and Ultimate Sports camps) in a safe, fun, and interactive environment

  • Provide support to the Summer Camp Instructors in a variety of indoor specialty camps (Kitchen, Visual Arts & Crafts, Drawing & Animation, Jewellery, Dance, Triple Threat camps) under the direction of the Cultural Arts Coordinator.

  • Supervise and direct volunteers and Leaders-in-Training (LITs) under the direction of the Cultural Arts Coordinator and the Summer Camp Coordinator.

  • Lead and successfully deliver other activities related to camps, such as welcoming of onsite guests, special presentations and offsite trips/excursions.

  • Clean-up of camp supplies after end of daily shift (e.g. pack supplies away, general clean up of space, etc.)

  • Supervise campers for extended care or lunch supervision, including leading a variety of activities

  • Liaise with customers (parents) and Cultural Arts Office staff

  • Perform any other tasks related to Summer Camp, as required

  • Attend all on-site training and meetings

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be good with children. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and coordinate children.

  • Current Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) required upon acceptance of employment

  • Must hold a valid First Aid/CPR certificate – or complete upon acceptance of employment

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Training an Asset

  • Previous experience teaching children ages 4 years and up

  • Working toward University or College degree/diploma in Arts & Culture, Sports, Early Childhood Education, Child Care, and Education, OR hold a similar accreditation and/or equivalent experience.

  • Previous experience working in a camp setting, an asset.

  • Previous experience working in a cultural community service environment, an asset.

  • Experience working with people from various cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Previous experience as a personal support worker, an asset

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly organized, excellent time management skills, and attention to detail

  • Creative and resourceful

  • Patient and responsible

  • Ability to problem solve and mediate difficult situations.

  • Knowledge of Italian language and/or Italian Canadian community, an asset

 

A selected number of the Summer Camp Counsellor positions are funded by grant money and therefore are subject to funding approval. Candidates must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for employment for Columbus Centre Summer Camp:

  • Candidate must be 16 – 30 years old at the start of Summer Camp employment

Job Summary

The Director of Development will operationalize the Villa Charities Foundation Strategic Plan including providing strategic direction and leadership of fundraising activities and providing support to the Executive Team, Board members, volunteers and staff who are engaged in fundraising.

 

A fundraising generalist, the Director of Development will be a proven professional with a broad range of fundraising experience, including major gift solicitation, proposal writing, fundraising event leadership, annual and monthly giving, capital fundraising, sponsorship, donor stewardship and cultivation.

 

The successful candidate will be an agile strategic thinker able to maximize and leverage opportunities. With an entrepreneurial spirit, the Director will seek revenue growth and encourage the development of a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

 

In addition to being donor-centric, the Director of Development will be an advocate for Villa Charities and nurture relationships within the Italian Canadian community.

 

The Director will bring a genuine appreciation of Italian culture, history, tradition and Italian immigration to Canada. With a strong commitment to philanthropy, the successful candidate will further Villa Charities’ mission to enrich lives through experiences and services that honour Italian culture and heritage.

 

Key job accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the implementation of key fundraising policies, fund development plan, and fundraising best practices
  • Work cross-functionally to develop mission-driven fundraising campaigns, initiatives, materials, and communications to donors
  • In partnership with the CEO and VP, Marketing and Communications, achieve annual revenue targets to support Villa Charities’ corporate objectives and strategic plan
  • Work in close partnership with the Foundation Board Chair and designated Board members on all resource and fundraising development efforts
  • Develop quarterly Board reports and present at Board meetings and Executive team meetings
  • Oversee and manage all annual fundraising events and special projects, including capital campaigns such as the Villa Charities Italian Canadian Immigrant Tribute project
  • Manage a donor relations program including strategies to successfully cultivate, solicit and steward donors in an effective and meaningful way
  • Manage the Villa Charities Scholarship Program, including the Scholarship Selection Committee and oversee the adjudication process
  • Identify and develop major gift cultivation strategies for individual, corporate and foundation prospects
  • Work closely with affiliate organizations, as needed, to identify funding needs that can be presented to prospective donors
  • Create and draft Foundation communications including email solicitations, website copy, and Villa Charities newsletter content
  • Identify and secure partnerships and sponsorships that align with Villa Charities’ brand and corporate objectives
  • Oversee donor relations and ensure all contractual deliverables are met
  • Prepare ROI measurement analysis and activation reports for sponsors and donors
  • Secure event Chairs and Committees and manage all communications
  • Manage fundraising and events budgets
  • Maintain a donor database (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Ensure accurate and complete record-keeping of all sources of revenue
  • Draft and execute agreements and contracts with sponsors and partners
  • Provide leadership to the Foundation team

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of and connections within the Italian Canadian community in Ontario, and appreciation towards the community, culture, traditions, and heritage.
  • Senior fundraising and management experience, preferably working in the healthcare or cultural sectors
  • Flexible and adaptable; comfortable working with uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Proven fundraising success with special projects, major donors and corporate sponsors
  • Strong leadership, team building, negotiating and sales skills
  • Ability to seek out and implement innovative fundraising and sales strategies.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and fundraising software platforms (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Familiarity with both individual project and departmental budget and financial processes
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and cultivate partnerships
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, to represent the organization in a variety of settings, and to engage constructively in strategic planning processes
  • Excellent collaborative and process-management experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Italian is desirable.
  • CFRE designation is an asset

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors – Villa Charities Columbus Centre

Job Summary

Lifeguards/Swim Instructors staff a wide variety of swimming programs. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for ensuring service excellence in all Aquatic Program spaces and assists in the safe operation of these programs and spaces.

 

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor directs leadership to programs and services that include maintaining a safe aquatic environment at all times, educating the public regarding safe swimming habits and providing progressive swimming instruction.

 

 

Key job accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility and acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
  • Provides emergency care and first aid treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Ensures that members and other staff adhere to pool conduct guidelines and maintains order in his/her designated area as a proactive approach to ensuring safety and accident prevention.
  • Provides instructional swimming lessons to various age groups following established curriculum.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements core lesson plans/daily lesson plans, progress reports and evaluations.
  • Maintains accurate, up to date progress sheets and records for participants; keeps Daily Log up to date and accurate.
  • Sets up and takes down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
  • Completes a safety check of lifesaving equipment prior to each shift. Assist staff team in pool/equipment maintenance duties
  • Demonstrates professionalism at all times
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Lifeguarding Certification – National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
  • Standard First Aid (SFA) Certification With CPR C and AED
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor & Emergency First Aid Instructor
  • One to three years of previous experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction
  • Experience working with children, adults and parent/tot programs

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Aquafit Certification, an asset
  • Advanced Instructor and Examiner Clinic, an asset
  • Other Advanced Leadership Certification i.e. NLS Instructor, Instructor Training, an asset
  • Must be mature, reliable, responsible and a team player
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members and staff

Villa Charities Inc. is currently recruiting for energetic, motivated Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and/or Early Childcare Assistant (ECA)to teach a variety of educational subjects and developmental
skills to children, from toddlers to preschool. The ECE will have excellent communication skills when discussing students’ problems and progress with parents, to ensure constant communication about the children’s development.

 

Job Summary

The incumbent in this position is required to provide quality supervision and guidance of daily activities for school age children. You will be required to work a split shift during the days the children are in school. On days children are not in school you will be required to work a full day shift. This position is for full-time hours (7.5 hours per day)

Maintenance Worker/Handyman – Villa Charities Inc.

Our Property Management Department is currently looking for an experienced Handyman to undertake upkeep and repair tasks at the interior or exterior of company premises. This role reports to the Facilities Manager. 

 

Key job accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and cleaning throughout the VCI facilities
  • Perform maintenance tasks related to renovations in the apartments and other projects
  • Respond to maintenance work orders/requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Repair plumbing, electrical, and safety systems.
  • When scheduled from time to time, maintain the cleanliness of outside spaces such as
    parking lots and sidewalks.
  • When scheduled from time to time, check the landscaping irrigation sprinkler system and
    trash containers on VCI premises.
  • When scheduled from time to time, clean facilities by sweeping, mopping, dusting etc.
  • When scheduled from time to time, take care of a variety of tasks, including trimming
    bushes, planting or removing trees, installing doors and shelves, and repairing furniture.
  • When scheduled from time to time, check facilities to identify issues with litter, mechanical
    failure or breakdowns.
  • Assist tradespeople with electrical, plumbing or HVAC repairs
  • Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks (e.g. shoveling snow)
  • Identify and report the need for major repairs
  • Responsible for opening/closing program buildings, and operating basic building systems
    (security locksets, alarms, lighting, HVAC, fire safety, utilities etc.)
  • Managing trash removal and recycling as per building requirements

 

Desired Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems
  • You don’t need to be a certified tradesperson(electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc) but you
    do need to have basic construction skills.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and be extremely detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and balance and prioritize multiple projects, deliver programs and tactics on a timely basis in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Must be flexible, adaptive to change and able to handle priorities with maturity and
    foresight to cope with input and changes, with short notice at times.
  • Proficiency in project management including ability to manage and prioritize competing assignments.
  • Flexible to changing work schedules, including weekend and evening shift
  • Proven diplomacy skills and commitment to customer service.
